KCAA is celebrating its 30th year as Kansas City’s preeminent provider of quality state of the art care and research for allergy, asthma and immunologic diseases. Since 1979, KCAA has been serving the KC-metro as the largest and leading provider of allergy and asthma care.

KCAA allergists treat both pediatric and adult patients and are each board certified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology. Board certified allergists are physicians with extensive training. Their advanced training covers pinpointing the problem or problems and prescribing the most effective treatment to give you the relief you need.

Gerald L. Goldstein, M.D.

Dr. Goldstein specializes in the evaluation and treatment of severe asthma. He also specializes in the evaluation and treatment of Atopic Dermatitis (eczema), food allergies, allergic rhinitis and related sinus conditions. In addition to his private practice as a physician of Allergy and Immunology since 1981, Dr. Goldstein has been a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics as the Kansas University Medical Center since 1983. Dr. Goldstein's pre-medical education was at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill where he earned a B.A. in Psychology, June, 1969. He completed his medical degree a the Catholic Univeristy of Louvaun in Belgium in 1976. He had a Rotating Externship at the University of Miami Affiliated Hospitals and a Pediatric Internship and Residency at the University of Connecticut Affilated Hospitals plus an Allergy and Immunology Fellowship at the National Jewish Hospital and Research Center National Asthma Center in Denver. Dr. Goldstein was named a "Super Doctor" as published in KC Magazine. He has also been selected by patients for the second year in a row to receive  "The Patient's Choice Award" for 2009, a designation provided by Castle & Connolly.

Scott J. Frankel, M.D.

As a child, Dr. Frankel suffered from severe allergies and asthma, and continued with milder issues as an adult, prompting him to enter the field of Allergy & Immunology. Areas of interest include severe asthma, allergy and sinus disease, and the unique vocal problems affecting singers and others involved with public speaking. Dr. Frankel earned his M.D. at Washington University School of Medicine in 1979. After an Internal Medicine residency at Jewish Hospital of St. Louis, he completed an Allergy & Immunology clinical and research fellowship at Barnes Hospital/Washington University. Besides being recognized as a top physician by three national publications (Regional Top Doctor in America's Top Doctors, 2006-2007, listings in Guides to America's Top Physicians, 2006 and Consumers' Guide to Top Doctors, 2002). In 2007, Dr. Frankel was chosen by other Kansas City allergists to receive the Allergy & Immunology “Super Doctor” award and published in KC Magazine. He was the first allergy and immunology specialist to receive this special designation in KC; for 2010 he has been identified again as a "Super Doctor" by KC Magazine. Dr. Frankel has also been selected by patients for the second year in a row to receive "The Patient's Choice Award" for 2009, a designation provided by Castle & Connolly. He has been in practice with Kansas City Allergy and Asthma Associates, P.A. since 1984.

Jeffrey A. Wald, M.D.

Dr. Wald specializes in research to find new medications to help treat asthma, allergies and related diseases. He is interested in the education of physicians, nurses, and patients about asthma and allergies, and helps run support groups for adolescents with asthma to help meet their educational and emotional needs. Dr. Wald has worked closely with schools and has been personally responsible for getting peak flow meters and Epi-Pens into several local school districts. His undergraduate degree was earned at Stanford University in 1975. He graduated from Medical School at the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1980, then trained in internal medicine at Washington University from 1980-1983. From 1984 through 1986 he studied Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology at the National Jewish Hospital in Denver. He practiced in the Department of Allergy in Southern California Permanente Medical Group before joining Kansas City Allergy & Asthma Associates, P.A. in 1989. In 2008, the Consumer Research Council of America identified Dr. Wald as a Top Doctor. He also was named a "Super Doctor" as published in KC Magazine and again for 2010 he has been identified as a "Super Doctor". Dr. Wald spends his off-duty time SCUBA diving, snow skiing, and gardening with his wife and three children.

Mark R. Neustrom, D.O., FACCAI, FAAAAI

Dr. Neustrom specializes in the treatment of adult and pediatric asthma, allergic rhinitis, urticaria (hives) and chronic sinusitis and has been a principal investigator for a clinical trial in the treatment of hereditary angioedema. Dr. Neustrom completed his fellowship in allergy and immunology at the Medical College of Wisconsin and joined KCAA in 1995. He received his D.O. from Des Moines University. Dr. Neustrom graduated from Iowa State University with a B.S. in Zoology in 1979.After medical school, he completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of South Dakota and was assistant Chief of Ambulatory Care at the VA Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD., for two years. In May 2009 Dr. Neustrom became a Certified Principal Investigator by the Association of Clinical Research Professionals. When away from work, Dr. Neustrom enjoys reading, travel, fine wine, playing the cello and cheering on his Iowa State Cyclones with his wife Mary and son Danny.

Derrick R. Ward, M.D.

Dr. Ward specializes in the treatment of asthma and allergic diseases in children, adolescents, and adults. He has special interests in the evaluation and treatment of food allergy, anaphylaxis, and hives. Dr. Ward studied allergy, asthma, and immunology at Children's Mercy Hospitals and Clinics, right here in Kansas City. Dr. Ward joined Kansas City Allergy and Asthma Associates in July 2007, after the completion of his training. Dr. Ward is a life-long sufferer of allergies himself, and, therefore, has great interest in teaching patients and their families about their allergies and asthma. He strives to help them have a better understanding of their disease and to, ultimately, improve their quality of life. Dr. Ward earned his undergraduate degree in microbiology, in 1997, from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL. He then attended medical school at Southern Illinois University in Springfield, IL, where he earned his M.D. degree in 2001. After the completion of his Internal Medicine residency, at St. John's Mercy Medical Center, in St. Louis, MO, Dr. Ward moved to Kansas City for his allergy, asthma, and immunology training. Dr. Ward lives in Kansas City with his wife Audra and their two greyhounds, Blue and Gracie. Dr. Ward enjoys traveling, reading, listening to music, and spending time with his wife and greyhounds in his free time.
