KCAA Congratulates 2 College Memorial Scholarship Recipients
02/13/10 Two local high school seniors are awarded scholarships from AAFA-KC
For 28 years, the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America’s Greater KC Chapter has been providing various programs and services to the asthma and allergy community in Kansas City. Their memorial college scholarships are in honor of Berri Mitchell, R.N. She was a nurse at Kansas City Allergy & Asthma Associates, P.A. who dedicated her life to teaching others about asthma and allergy management and compliance in young children and adolescents. Since her passing in 2000, AAFA-KC each year recognizes and honors her passion to the field by giving financial assistance to talented young students who share her same passion. This year’s recipients of two scholarships are Hillary Hinderuter at Olathe East High School and Maggie Turek at St. Thomas Aquinas High School.
Berri Mitchell Memorial College Scholarship Awarded to Hillary Hinderlighter:
Hillary Hinderlighter is a member of the National Honor Society at Olathe East High School as well as a valued member of the Varsity cheerleading team. Aside from Hillary’s academic success, she is also an active member of the Kansas City community helping with both Angel Babies and Operation Breakthrough. Hillary plans on becoming a Special Education Teacher after attending the University of Kansas.
The Noel Albert Scholarship is for dedicated high school students who become members of the AAFA-KC Junior Board Member Program. These teens assist us with our many programs and services throughout their 4 years in high school.
Noel Albert Scholarship Awarded to Maggie Turek:
When Maggie Turek is not busy playing varsity tennis, working or volunteering, she fills her time with her duties as a valued member of the St. Thomas Aquinas High School National Honor Society, Student Ambassador, Presidential Honor Roll, and Yearbook staff. Described by many as sincere and compassionate, hard working, and a true leader, Maggie looks forward to continuing her education in the hopes of becoming a family and juvenile lawyer.
Congratulations, to these outstanding students, join us in wishing them luck in their future endeavors. To learn more about AAFA-KC, go to, www.aafa-kc.org.
